GISupply Inc. was established in 2003 on the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan. Despite Hokkaido being home to 1.5 million cattle, both beef and dairy, the region has faced a decline in farming. Maintaining productivity requires managing grazing cattle over vast pastures with fewer personnel. For cattle raised indoors, high-bandwidth communication systems for estrus and health detection were widely developed. However, these systems faced technical challenges for monitoring cattle far from barns. The advent of LoRa technology in 2017 enabled long-range, low-power monitoring. GISupply developed "Ushimiru" to enhance productivity and animal welfare using IT innovations.
